With my last ounce of strength, I manage to climb the last few metres up the slippery side slopes of the hill,
gripping the rough, dry grass between my fingers as I pull on it to stop myself falling.
At last, I get up off my hands knees, for the first time since the start of the long, steady climb up to the top,
and as I stretch out my legs fully, I can feel the warm, slow breeze running through my hair, through the air all
around me, brushing the tips of the long, wheaty fields of grass around my feet, rustling and whistling softly in
my ears.
I lay back gently, sitting at first on the dry, muddy floor, then stretching out behind me, putting my head softly
to the ground, feeling the growing crop brushing my skin as I lie slowly back into it. My hands lay far above my
body, arms outstretched, relaxing fully, as if getting comfortably ready to watch a great vision in the sky above.
Taking deep, slow breaths, relaxing my mind, slowing my heartbeat, I look up above me, staring blankly into the
huge, deep mass of dark blue that is the night sky. And there they are, the first few stars shining brightly, just
like bright, bold lights shining through a thick, dark canvas, making sudden sharp flashes of light appear in every
corner of my eye. One by one, slowly but surely, they start to shine through, more and more, brighter and brighter,
every one like a new bead to the backdrop, dropping into place softly but swiftly, steadily lighting up the shadows
with beatiful shimmers of white.
As I gaze up at this magnificant view, such a perfect sight to the eye, glistening and glimmering with brilliance,
everything just hits me.
